Scout Community Week ran from 14th to 20th May 2012 and the Scout Troop did their bit by helping with various jobs at Ashfield Junior School.
With the help of some parents, grandparents and a sibling, the Scouts collected more than 6 bags of litter, fixed a fence around one of the play grounds, cleared debris and weeds from playgrounds and paths. The also got handy with loppers and saws clearing overground trees and shrubs whilst some of the adults did some weeding. As well as learning a little about hard-work, the Scouts made a difference to their local community and in doing so said a small thank-you to their hosts, Ashfield Junior School. Bravo! |

_Whilst most
people were turning the thermostat up, a group of over 30 Scouts from
Workington, including eight from 1st Workington, braved sub-zero temperatures for a weekend camping under canvas at
Great Tower Scout Activity Centre, near Windermere. Overnight
temperatures dropped to -2degC ensuring that the camp lived up to its
"Frostbite" name.
The Scouts from St Johns, Banklands and Harrington Scout Troops were part of a 130 strong contingent of Scouts and Leaders from all over Cumbria spending the weekend doing activities including archery, mountain biking and climbing. The weekend was rounded off with a military tattoo style field-gun challenge. |
Beaver and Cubs from St John's and Harrington Scout Groups visit Trotters World of Animals at Armathwaite, Bassenthwaite.
From rabbits to giant pythons, the children handled them all as well as watching a bird of prey display. Cubs from both St John's and Harrington were investigated. |

_The Explorers from StJohn's, Banklands and Harrington enjoyed their
Christmas Party activity this year at Raw War Paintballing at Aspatria.
Over 20 Explorers from the three groups met to have an all mighty
ding-dong and sort out who are the best Explorer Group in the area.
Unfortunately it was a three way draw - so no winners this year - maybe next year...........

1st Workington Scout Troop's Tiger Patrol won the 2011 Manhunt competition.
Scouts from all over Cumbria had to trek across the Skiddaw foothills, finding their own way and avoiding a chasing pack of leaders and Explorer Scouts - many of whom were "cheating" by travelling by car! Wolf Patrol also took part but it was Tiger Patrol who managed to lose fewer "lifes" than any other group. This was the first time 1st Workington entered the Manhunt competition. Roll on 2012! |
